You don't want your video feed to drop out in a hard bank and you don't want a big antenna from a 72mhz system boggin you down. I'd recommend 5.8 with a Cloverleaf antenna for size and reliability. KK2.0 isn't exactly robust vs an air soft gun.įPV systems come in many frequencies. Protect your electronics as much as possible though. IMO, I wouldn't want to shoot at my $500 carbon fiber quad good old wood is what i use on my crashquad. If you're going to be shooting things at the quad, you might want cheaper building material that you can swap out and get back into the air if something where to break.
Don't use the kite sticks.not strong enough lol. AR Drone's frame might be too big but you get to keep your sexycopter look Carbon fiber can definately take a hit, but if it breaks, its more expensive to fix and harder to come by. 4s LiPo might give you quicker takeoffs and accelerations than 3s.įrames are entirely up to you. If you're going to be shooting at a moving target, you probably want something quick and agile to catch it right? You'll just need to find ESCs to pair with the motors you pick. Your efficiency will suffer but you get incredible agility and speed with this setup.

The thing can handle full manual mode so you can duck and do a triple flip while shooting back, how awesome would that be?!įor motors and props, you would want to go with smaller props, 8 inch with higher kv motors, maybe 1200-1400kv. Highly customizable to your flight needs and really cheap ($35-$50) I'm sure you won't be needing all the GPS holding and barometer stuff for your FPS quad. Let's get started, a great "first flight controller" I've used before would be a KK2.0 board. Use common sense, otherwise you risk endangering this entire hobby as the word "Drones" has caused enough chaos in this RC world, especially if you choose to attach a gun to your drone. If any injury or damage occurs, you are the sole person responsible. I been wanting to do this for so long now and haven't got to it, so here's my chance to help you get your project off the ground! sorry the puns are horrible I knowįirst and foremost, any tips or advice I give you is strictly for use in a deserted area and not to be used to shoot any living organism. It's just has to shoot, fly, FPV, and not cause nuclear explosions. Thoughts? Whats better than an awesome drone thats also sexy?Īnyway, I know I'm not going to be able to achieve some things and $500 probably isn't enough, but I know close to nothing about quads and wanted some advice before I start wasting my time. Drone so I could keep the awesome looks but get better functionality. I was thinking of building it around the indoor hull of an A.R. I'm thinking carbon fiber? I have some thin rods meant for kites laying around. Not necessary as there will be rules put in place but also prevent major damage from a crash on my part. I don't mind a dent but I don't want anything destroyed. I was thinking of putting some kind of shell around it but there is a chance it may be accidentally shot with a high power airsoft gun used in normal circumstances. So, it needs to carry a 350+ gram payload. I would just put it as close as possible to the frame. I'm not, at least I don't think I will, going to 3D print a frame although I do have access to a 3D printer at school, I'm not familiar with any design program. I would prefer to have it sort of built in to the design, not dangling from the bottom or strapped on top. The gun should weigh about 250 grams tops then add ammo. I would remove the gearbox and barrel from the outer body to save weight. Nothing fancy, just one of those crappy mini things at Walmart. So I was thinking it would have to be about 24" to be the right proportion. It just needs to be controllable and not twitchy - I need to be able to shoot a target at 10-20ft with the onboard airsoft gun.
I don't think it will be that hard of a transition and don't want to waste money on a beginner quad. I've never flown a drone but I do fly a lot of airplanes. I don't have an FPV system yet but I was looking into getting one for my plane anyway - ideas? Not looking to shoot video, just so I can see. I don't want to spend over $500 if at all possible. I don't have the funds now and don't have a set budget, but this will take a long time anyway to get together.

My other hobby is airsoft-ing which has consumed most of my free time and money lately. I haven't posted in a while and I apologize if I've forgotten the ropes a little, but I had an interesting thought the other day.

Edit: This probably should have went into the scratch-built section so if a mod wants to move it.
